Description

This was the first S-band TR switch, 50KW peak, derived from the body of the NR89 klystron. Using the same resonating cavity and the roughly same structure, the body was filled with few millimetres of water vapour and a radioactive activating compound painted inside the glass. Referred to as 'Soft Sutton tube' or 'Soft Rhumbatron', in the late 1942 its filling atmosphere was changed to a mixture of water vapour and argon, 6 mm Hg each. The resonating cavity or Rhumbatron was surrounded by a constant temperature jacket.
Used in H2S and ASV radar sets.
Design details were sent to USA since late 1941.
