Below you find a part of the radio collection Charles Maulding - including other related items. I collect 1920's through 1940's, primarily. An occasional foray into the 50's and 60's, although those eras don't hold quite the same appeal, for me. My collection contains more than 100 radios. I am always looking for the next one that catches my fancy. So far, my restorations are the usual, cabinet cosmetics, chassis component replacement, recapping, rewiring, etc., as needed. I have a love for antiques, in general. As an IT professional and former Navy Electronics Tech, radios are a logical extension of my love of things from another time and a love of technology, too. It gives me great pleasure, to find a neglected, forgotten instrument, that has played so much of our history, be it news, music, old radio programs, even advertising, through the ages and bring it back to life. I love them all, from the elegant that occupied a sitting room, to the ones that were on a shelf over someone's workbench. I really like the idea that these radios will still be playing for others to enjoy, long after I'm gone. We really don't own them, we are stewards who get to enjoy them for a while, then they pass on to another. Their makers, I'm sure, didn't have it in mind, that these would be still in service, so long after they were made. Somewhere along the way, they became living pieces of history. I want to do my part to keep them alive. A good number of my radios can be seen on my YouTube channel, OldRadioAl. |
