Below you find a part of the radio collection Gregg Gilliam - including other related items. I'm retired now and by chance obtained a 1947 Philco Radio/Phonograph 47-1230 while doing some antique shopping. I restored it electrically and mechanically and found I thoroughly enjoyed it. That started me on a search for additional vintage radios in need of restoration, locally to me. I only do this as a hobby for myself and am not interested in selling my items. I put a lot of time and effort in what I do, since I am a bit of a perfectionist. I am gaining much knowledge every day on various forums and am grateful for the Radio Museum in getting great information that is not readily available elsewhere. I really like the larger console style radios and currently have a 1929 Victor R-32, a 1940 Philco 40-158 Code 121, a 1942 Philco 42-400 Code 121, the 1947 Philco 47-1230 and a 1950 Philco 50-T1104 television all slated for restoration. The 40-158 is completely stripped and is electrically restored, and I am currently working on the cabinet restoration. I hope to upload some finished photos of these and any other units I pick up as they are completed. On the two units I electrically/mechanically restored I kept the visible portions of the chassis intact and original, however used new visible components underneath. I have since watched several videos on re-stuffing capacitors and plan to do so on the other units. Since I saved everything I have removed, I very well may go back and make the first two radios more original with re-stuffed caps at some point in time. I look forward to sharing information between enthusiasts. |
