Below you find a part of the radio collection Joseph Gates - including other related items. I have been collecting old radios for about 30 years. I have about 25 old radios; vintage radios that I have restored or am in the process of restoring them. I enjoyed this very much and I have always had radios ever since I was about 12 years old. Right now I am in the process of restoring a Philco radio and I am removing this speaker and replacing it was a permanent magnet speaker and also have ordered the schematic and have ordered special cloth for the front of the cabinet. My pride and joy will be the restoration of my Zenith radio and be able to display them when I move to North Carolina this spring 2011. I also enjoy working with stained glass; both copper foil and leaded type window configurations. I have sold them on consignment and on commission. I have built my own computers and I enjoy working with all kinds of mechanical and electrical devices. My recent experience has been to repair and restore several mantle clocks that are now working wonderfully. I also have in my possession, 2 Duncan Parking Meter Lamps that I have repaired and restored. I used to work for the company back in 1971, MI last assignment was to work in the parking meter creation division. There, I learned how they completely manufacturer and put together the old parking meter lamps. As you can see, I have a wide range of interests however, I am in the midst of some serious grief and loss since losing my wife, Bonnie, on September 20, 2009. She bought breast cancer for several years however, it metastasized to her liver and she became chemotherapy resistant. While I miss her deeply, I grieve more for my children and myself because they will have much longer time to grieve then I will. On a more positive note, I have been blessed deeply by many people and I have been able to move forward and continue to take care of my children who are now all of adults. I'm excited about becoming a member of the radio museum and I look forward to continue dialogue with others. |
