Below you find a part of the radio collection Nigel Matson - including other related items. I started in electronics about 30 years ago with the advent in the UK of CB radio. Then I began to make fuzz boxes and wah-wah pedals and the like for local bands. I then bought a disco and ran that for 7 or 8 yrs (finished up with 2 discos!) sold the lot in about 93, but kept the deck, amplifier and records. I now have about 10.000 records spanning over 100 years. To cut a long story short I received a phone call from a friend of mine (Ed) in April this year. He had just bought at auction a vintage Rolls-Royce. He said that I should take my van and go to Datchet (near Slough) from where he had collected the car. (a freind of his was looking after the place), as the previous owner (now in a home) had been in business collecting and restoring old tv`s, radios and tape recorders, and knowing of my interest in such stuff suggested it might be worth my while to go and have a look. I eventually brought back from Datchet 3 vans full of this stuff, and am still sorting it now! When I started making grey boxes for local bands in the early 80`s I used to strip down old valve radios and tv`s to get components. They were worth nothing then, and not many people could be bothered with them. I came by 1 or 2 then that still worked, and I still have these. But now, being temporarily out of work after an operation I would like to put something back so to speak, and repair some old radios instead of stripping them! |
