Matchless Electric Company Matchless were included in the "Broad Street Gossip" column of the Wall Street Journal, April 8th 1930 as an RCA licensee. By 1930 the company had grown to a point where it was close to being the largest tube manufacturer licensed by RCA. The lamps made by the company were largely miniature types for autos, flashlights, telephone switchboards and control equipment. The company also produced a wide range of very successful Christmas lamps. |

The Matchless Electric Company was formed in 1912 by Paul Dittman, a German immigrant, to make light bulbs / lamps. They incorporated in 1918 to "make, buy, sell and deal in electric supplies, light bulbs and radio tubes". In 1930, the company name was changed to Century Lamp & Tube Co. [1] In 1931, the name of a third company D-G Electric Co., Paul Dittman being the principle stockholder, with the business to "deal in all kinds and descriptions of electrical devices", was changed to Matchless Electric Co.
