P.R. Mallory and Co., Inc. was founded in 1916 by Philip Roger Mallory, to produce tungsten wire for lamp filaments. In 1924 it had many divisions like Duracell for batteries and Mallory Capacitor Company with manufactorig plants in Greencastle Indiana, Huntsville Alabama, Waynesboro Tennessee and Glasgow Kentucky. Mallory Controls in Frankfort Indiana and Mallory Distributor Products in Indianapolis. In 1942 it developed a mercury battery used during the Second World War. The company registered the trademark Duracell in 1964. In 1978 it was purchased by Dart Industries and renamed Duracell. In 1985 the European metal alloys parts of the former P.R. Mallory were collected under the names Mallory Corporation and Mallory Alloys Group. In 1996 it was aquired by The Gillette Company and later aquired in 2005 by Procter & Gamble. In 2012 P&G announced it would spin off Duracell as part of a restructuring scheme. In 2016 Berkshire Hathaway completed the purchase of Duracell. From web and Wikipedia. |
