History:
Cutler, Harry Henderson 1859 - 1933; inventor, manufacturer, b. Brookline, Mass. He graduated from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (S.B., 1881). He was prominently identified with the electrical control and gas engine industry, and received 73 patents, mostly for electrical control devices. With Edward West Hammer of Cleveland, Ohio, and others, he formed a partnership in Chicago (1892) under the firm name of the Chicago Electric & Manufacturing Co. (incorporated in 1893 as the Cutler-Hammer Manufacturing Co.), specializing in electric starters, speed regulators, and field rheostats. In 1898 the American Rheostat Co. of Milwaukee acquired the Cutler-Hammer Manufacturing Co. and adopted the latter's corporate name. Residing in Milwaukee from 1900 to 1915, Cutler served as general manager (1899-1901) and vice-president (1901- 1915). [Source: Dictionary of Wisconsin biography
