Shanghai No.3 Radio Factory: Shanghai: 上海无线电三厂Shànghǎi 上海: Shanghai is a municipal city in East China, abbr. to 滬｜沪. As municipality it is directly under the central government, without being part of a province but its own government can be in a certain district, here it is Huángpǔ District 黄浦区, trad. 黃浦區 in central Shanghai.无线电厂, trad. 無線電廠 = Wúxiàndiàn 无线电 = Wireless (we call it Radio, because most used); Chǎng 厂 = Factory (yard / depot / workhouse / works / (industrial) plant). Brands: Xinshidai 新时代, English = "New Age. Meiduo 美多, English = "Metto". Was used by SWF and SWF No.3. Chunlei 春雷, English = "Spring Thunder". Hongqi 红旗, English = "Red Flag". Was used by several manufacturers. History:In August 1960, a part of the Shanghai Radio Equipment Factory 上海电器材厂 and a cotton mill merged into Shanghai No.3 Radio Factory 上海无线电三厂. Production of radios used then brands like Meiduo 美多, Xinshidai 新时代, Chunlei 春雷, Hongqi 红旗, etc. At the moment we have split the production according to the names. See Shanghai Radio Factory for earlier production.Alone in Shanghai existed more than 30 "wireless factories", some of them producing components only, like "Shanghai 1st Wireless Factory". The main Brands of Shanghai No.3 Radio Factory 上海无线电三厂 was METTO which is Meiduo in Pin Yin. But mid 1960s they had to change the brands according to the following notice: "Important Notice Radios made by our factory were named Metto (Meiduo), this stinking name was given by capitalist. Along with the progress of proletariat cultural revolution, we will not tolerate its existence. So, after discussion with revolutionist masses, we decided to use Red Flag as the name. But to save money for the nation, we are still using printed Metto (Meiduo) [Red crossed] manual and printed backplate showing chasis structure, please be understandable. Shanghai No.3 Radio Factory, Oct 4th, 1966". Often was also used Spring Thunder 春雷 (Chun Lei). Both, Metto and Sring Thunder were used by Shanghai No.3 Radio Factory to mark its radio models.
