In 1882 "Ingersoll Watch Co." was founded by Robert Hawley Ingersoll and his brother Charles Henry as a mail order company in New York.
In their 1892 catalogue they offered wrist watches supplied by the "Waterbury Clock Company". In 1921 Ingersoll went into bancrupty. In 1922 Ingersoll was purchased by "Waterbury Clock Company". In 1932 Waterbury separated the London-based arm of the Ingersoll watch business, "Ingersoll, Ltd." In 1942 the operation of "Waterbury Clock Company" was purchased by a group of Norwegian investors. After World War 2 the British "Ingersoll Ltd." joined with "Smiths Industries Ltd." and "Vickers Armstrong" to become "Anglo-Celtic Company Ltd." at Ynyscedwyn.
In 1969 "Ingersoll Ltd." has left this venture. In 1980 the Ingersoll factory was closed. |
