Max Byer established a company called Broadcast Recording Supplies Co. (BRS) in the 1930s and moved into 8 Dorcas Street, South Melbourne in 1940. In August, 1946 the company name was changed to Byer Industries Pty. Ltd.[1] The company was taken over by Rola Company (Aust) Pty. Ltd., in 1957 and remained as a subsidiary. [2] Rola continued marketing tape recorders under both the Byer Brand and Rola until Rola itself was taken over by Plessey Electronics in the mid 1960’s. Max Byer died in January, 1985.
