F.J. Palmer started as men's outfitters and hatters in Redfern in 1880. In the early 1900’s they opened two stores in Pitt and George Streets, Sydney. F.J. Palmer & Son Ltd. was registered on Aug 28, 1918.[1] In May 1932, they staged a free radio show of Australian manufactured Radio receivers, speakers, valves and electric clocks in the newly opened radio department on the ground floor of the Park Street premises.[2] They also announced the Palamavox Arrow 4 receiver. In the early 1950’s the company additional opened stores in Wagga Wagga and Maitland NSW. Buckingham Holdings merged with the company in March 1967 to form the Buckingham’s-F.J. Palmer retail chain.[3]
