Harry W. Denford manufactured and sold radios from his premises on the corner of Milligan and Murray Streets, Perth and branded them Vox-Adeon¹. From an advertisement in the “West Australian Wireless News” dated December 16, 1933 he advertises All-Wave Sets and superheterodyne short wave converters. The radios were guaranteed for five years¹. Vox-Adeon Radios Ltd. was registered by H W Denford and A Spencer in February 1936². In October 1936 the company rented radios for £ -/2/6 per week on a contract which included servicing³. It is not known when Vox-Adeon stopped manufacturing sets however they were selling sets from other Australian Manufacturers from September 1938⁴. In 1957 Vox-Adeon Ltd. merged with Wyper Howard Ltd. to form to form Vox-Adeon Howard Ltd⁵. Wyper Howard Ltd, previously Phonographs Ltd., was owned by William W Wyper and Sir Henry Rudolph (Harry) Howard and held the Australian agency for Edison and sold phonograms and Ediphone dictating machines. Howard successfully diversified into selling household electrical goods. With the introduction of television to Perth in 1959 the business boomed, by 1960 the company had twelve branches and dominated electrical retailing in Perth. ¹ West Australian wireless World, 16 Dec 1933, page 84 |
