Fondata: 1704
Chiusa: 1948
Storia:

The company was founded ca. 1704. A signature of J. Newton, the then head of the firm, with the date 26 October 1704 proves the existence of the business early in the reign of Queen Anne.

In the 1850s, the partners were W. E. and F. Newton. In 1891, the proprietors were Frederick Newton and his son.

In 1891, Mr Russel Lewis Wright enters service of Newton and Co. The same year an optical projector (Magic Lantern) designed by Mr Wright and Mr. Newton was built.

They presumably were one of the 3 suppliers to the Admiralty of wireless telegraphy equipment, the order totaling 54 sets in 1901.

Newton and Wright was incorporated as a private limited company in 1911. In 1914, they are makers of electrical and scientific instruments, with a focus on X-ray and electro-medical apparatus.

In 1915 they were granted a licence to make a high tension voltmeter (patented by Bauer of Germany) for use with X-Ray tubes.

The company went into voluntary liquidation in 1937.

Metropolitan-Vickers Electrical Co. (part of AEI) acquired a large interest in the company in 1945, and in 1948 the X-ray interests of Metropolitan-Vickers, Newton and Wright and the Victor X-Ray Corporation were merged into a new company Newton Victor Ltd.
