The Wireless Weekly of August 8, 1924 advertised that Claravox receivers had been developed by two radio experts. Walter H. Hannam as designer and constructor, who had spent 18 months in the Antarctic with the Sir Douglas Mawson Polar Expedition as Chief Wireless Engineer and 2 years as Wireless Instructor at AIF headquarters in France during WW1. Hannam also operated experimental broadcast station 2YH. Mr Z. J. Jacobs was Business Manager for the company.[1] Also in August 1924 they ran a competition for amateurs to construct the best crystal set from parts bought from the company. The prize was a 4 valve receiver valued at £75.[2] Hannam ran the Radio School at Claravox and offered free instruction for the home constructor as long as they purchased parts from the company.[3] The company was registered in January 1925 with First Directors Zacharias J. Jacobs and G.F. Adams.[4] The company closed in June 1926 after Jacobs died.[5] [1] Wireless Weekly, Aug 8, 1924, Page 19. |
