H. Rowe & Co was founded in Melbourne in June, 1901, by Mr. Henry Rowe; it expanded rapidly, and in 1906 the Australian representation of Evershed Vignoles was secured, shortly after that of The Rheostatic Co. Ltd., and later Venner Time Switches Ltd., Geo. Bray & Co. Ltd., J. A. Crabtree & Co. Ltd., Dorman & Smith Ltd., Edison Swan Electric Co. Ltd. (Cables), H. Tinsley & Co. Ltd., Tinsley (Industrial Instruments) Ltd., and more recently Brentford Transformers Ltd. In 1923 a Sydney Branch was established, followed by expansion to Adelaide in 1938 and Brisbane in 1945. Agents are employed in Tasmania and Western Australia. The company has two factories, one in Melbourne and one in Sydney, and hold a number of patents, including world patents. Manufacturing and merchandising is negotiated under the name of "Rowco" and includes industrial reflectors, lighting equipment, plugs and switches, electric stoves, Convector heaters, Califont sink heaters, Bustribution systems, etc. (FROM CONSTRUCTION (SYDNEY) Oliver J. Nilsen (Australia) Ltd. took over the company in 1981 and the name was changed to Nilsen Rowe (Australia) Pty. Ltd. |
