Name: Briton Trading Co. Ltd.; Wellington    (NZ)
Abbreviation: briton
Products: Model types
Summary:

Briton Trading Co. Ltd.
Magnus Motors Building Wakefield Street, Wellington

The 'Briton' radio brand was sold in New Zealand in 1934 and 1935.

According to the Late John Stokes, Briton was manufactured by General Radio Co. and were distributed by Briton Trading Co. Ltd. [1]
Advertising for Briton radios was plentiful in the period 1934 to 1935 by various retailers.

Founded: 1934
Closed: 1935
Production: 1934 - 1935
History:

Briton Trading Co. Ltd. was registered in January 1934 to buy, make, or manufacture, import, export, sell, or deal in radio equipment and apparatus, cinematograph equipment and general incidental. The subscribers were P.S. Ramsay, J. W. G Brodie and M. O. Barnett. [2]

It is not clear who made Briton radios over the 1934/35 period. If, as Stokes suggests General Radio Co. made them, then perhaps it was only for the early part of 1934 as General Radio closed in late 1934 and it is not clear who manufactured their later models.

Briton Electrical & Radio Co. in Australia also manufactured Briton Radios from 1935 and did distribute their Aeolian brand through Cordery, Wells & Co. Ltd. in New Zealand. However, there is no evidence to date to say their Australian Briton radios were distributed by the Briton Trading Co. Ltd.

Briton Trading Co. Ltd. was wound up on 26 November 1935,[3]
