Dominion Radio Co. Ltd. was registered in Wellington in June 1923 to acquire the business J.H. McClay to import, assemble, manufacture radio equipment. Subscribers: J.H. McClay, H.H. Garrett and H. Loyd. [1] In August 1923 they erected mast and an antenna on the Dominion Newspaper building and commenced transmission with a 500-watt transmitter. [2] By February 1924 they advertised valves headphones and crystal sets for sale.[3] They advertised Kennedy brand radios for sale in late 1924. [4] Radio 2YK was closed due to serious defects and was repaired and operated by the Postmaster Generals Department in September 1925. [5] Radio newspaper advertising ceased around this time also.
