Unilab Ltd.

Unilab specialised in the electrical and electronic manufacture of training aids for power supplies, meters, radiation counters, signal generators, etc which were designed for science education training.

The company was later acquired by Findel Education Limited (trading as Philip Harris), and Unilab educational products are still available, as of 2013.

History:

In an August 1967 article on Training Aids for Television Technicians, there was a description of a Unilab training aid.

The Unilab items were neat black bakelite cases that could contain anything from individual components or valves to complete circuits and with a schematic diagram boldly etched in white on top.

For instance, one small Unilab case contained only a pentode valve internally connected to small sockets aligned on the respective electrodes of the pentode symbol etched on the case top. Thus the student could apply the appropriate voltages and inputs to the respective electrodes and note the effect of varying their values on exterior meters. In this way, the pentode symbol was graphically associated with the actual valve.

Other Unilab items seen were various types of oscillators, AF amplifiers, half-wave rectifiers, and transistor circuits, again all with the appropriate circuit etched on top and with sockets permitting electrical access to all points in the unit. [1]
