J.H. Runbaken founded the Runbaken Magneto Co. around 1914, initially manufacturing spark plugs, motorcycle ignition coils, and magnetos.

The company became known for its high-quality electrical equipment, including oil-filled coils and magnetos used in various industries. Battery chargers and battery eliminators and notably, their Testoscope was a popular tool among radio service engineers.

Despite the founder's passing in 1949, the company continued operating well into the 1950s.

History of the Runbaken Magneto Co.

Founded around 1914 by J.H. Runbaken, the company initially focused on manufacturing spark plugs, motorcycle ignition coils, and magnetos.

The Runbaken Magneto Company, based in Manchester, established itself as a prominent manufacturer of oil-filled coils, magnetos, and various other electrical equipment.
The company participated as an exhibitor at the 1937 British Industries Fair, showcasing its products, including the "Engravex" electric arc-etcher, testers and accessories for electrical and auto-electrical equipment, the "Oilcoil" ignition coil for trucks, battery chargers and rectifiers, engine compression gauges, and a wide range of testing equipment. Notably, their Testoscope, a tool widely used by radio service engineers, boasted the ability to perform twenty essential tests.

J.H. Runbaken, the founder and managing director of Runbaken Electrical Products in Manchester, passed away on July 18th, 1949. Despite his passing, the company continued operations well into the 1950s.
