Radio and Electronics Business In the late 1940s, R.H. Electronic Service was involved in selling radio and electronics components and equipment: - In December 1948, they advertised crystal oscillators for the RCA ET4336 transmitter and various radio components like condensers, insulators, and switches. - Their March 1949 advertisement showed that they were selling more advanced equipment, such as panoramic adaptors, rotary beam indicators, and Hallicrafters receivers.
- They also offered television kits and manuals for building televisions from surplus equipment. [2]
Transition to Tape Recorders By 1950, the company had shifted focus to manufacturing tape recorders: - In July 1950, they advertised the "R.H. Qualtape Magnetic Tape Recorder" as a kit for home assembly. [3]
- The company was incorporated as Electronic Service (Hallamshire), Ltd. in July 1950 to acquire the tape recorder and television manufacturing business of David Sockett. [4]
Qualtape Brand The company continued developing its Qualtape brand of tape recorders in the early 1950s: - In September 1952, they announced a "sensational tape recording invention" that allowed recording from the radio or record player directly to tape. [5]
