The Colonial Radio Corp. was founded by Dr. Fulton Cutting and Bowden Washington of Cutting & Washington fame. After Cutting & Washington was sued by Westinghouse for infringement on it's Armstrong patent the company went into receivership in August of 1924. By September Cutting & Washington were to reopen their radio business in Long Island, New York as the Colonial Radio Corp. The factory was located at East Avenue and Tenth Street in Long Island. The factory employed 200 people and by November was showing their models 16 and 17 at the Chicago Radio Show. Colonial took over Valley Appliances of Rochester, New York in February 1930, and King Radio of Buffalo in October 1930. The company apparently closed all of the King plants except the one in Buffalo in mid-1931. |
