Histoire:
In 1897 Marconi registered the company Wireless Telegraph and Signal Company and in 1898 the first wireless factory was set up in Chelmsford. In 1900 the company was renamed Marconi's Wireless Telegraph Company, Ltd (MWCT). Marconi's first aim in perfecting communication without wires was to break the isolation of those at sea. When the Titanic struck an iceberg and sank in 1912, the loss of life was truly terrible, but those who survived owed their lives to the distress calls from the Marconi wireless equipment on board. MWCT was recognised as the pioneers of trans-oceanic and maritime wireless services. In the beginning of the 1920´s MWCT had evolved the only aircraft radiotelephone organisation in the world, and in the 1930´s they were leading the development of transmitters/receivers for the airlines. At the outbreak of world war two MWCT was given the responsibility to design and produce new radio equipment for the Bomber Command and the wellknown transmitter/receiver T1154/R1155 was born. During the years Marconi founded many new companies and subsidiaries, and for consistency all Marconi models in RMORG are listed under Marconi Co. Marconi's Wireless Telegraph Company was taken over by English Electric in 1946. In 1968 English Electric merged with the General Electric Company (GEC). In 1999 GEC was renamed Marconi plc, which in turn became Marconi Corporation plc in 2003.
