Originally Aristona was a brandname used by Philips' subsidiary NSF (Nederlandsche Seintoestellen Fabriek, Hilversum, NL). The Dutch company NSF sold its products under the Aristona label in countries outside The Netherlands since 1928. This was the result of an agreement with the German company NSF (Nürnberger Schrauben Fabrik) to avoid confusion with the brandname NSF in the market place. In the middle of the fifties Philips terminated the activities of the subsidiary NSF (which had been renamed into Philips Telecommunicatie Industrie in the meantime). At that occasion the brand NSF was dropped, but Philips decided to adopt the succesful brandname Aristona for its own products, in the Netherlands as well as abroad. (So it is important to note that Aristona never was the name of a manufacturing company. It was a brandname of the Dutch NSF for its export activities until the middle of the fifties and a brandname of Philips all over the world, including The Netherlands, after that time.)
