Tivoli Audio See also tivoliaudio.com Tivoli Audio was founded by Tom DeVesto and Henry Kloss (* 1929 in Altoona, PA; † 31. Januar 2002). |
Founded: | 2000 |
History: |
Henry Kloss formerly founded or co-founded a number of companies, all about audio products:
The first product Tivoli introduces is a small table radio "Model One" with a price tag of $100 USD. With clean design, wooden case, simple to operate, good reception and sound, this radio made its way with ~200.000 sales in USA despite a relatively high price. A number of cheap imitations (in Germany by e.g. Medion, Tchibo TCM) never reached the quality of the original. Model One is still sold in 2017, since 2012 with minute optical changes and as version "Oone MP" with MP3 play-back capability. In 2001 "Model Two" is introduced, the stereo version of Model One. Optically largely identical, Model Two comes withan additional speaker box, fitting in size and outfit. While working on "Model Three" (mainly a One with analog clock, and therefore the speaker directed upwards) and "PAL", Henry Kloss, aged 72, passed away on January 31th, 2002. DeVesto brings both new radios to the market successfully. PAL is a small upright radio with a plastic housing, with rubbered surface, water resistant, and with built-in rechargeable NiMH batteries independant of mains. It's priced 130 USD (in Europe up to 250 Euros) and is a successful product despite manufacture in China. "iPAL", a white version suited for the iPod, shares technique and operation with PAL, and is introduced late 2004. They are still available as of 2017. Newer products support Bluetooth and DAB. Unfortunately, Tivoli has to this date (2017) not released any service manuals or schematics, so repairs are difficult to impossible. |
