Evershed & Vignoles, Limited, Acton Lane Works, Chiswick, London, W.4.: Well known by their "Megger Earth Tester", which is an insulation tester in the high Megohm range. Evershed and Vignoles invented them and sold them, starting in 1905. Already before they sold also other measuring instruments. The earlier Megger had two massive bar magnets with pole pieces at both ends, so that one end did for the moving coils and the other provided the generator field.
The earlier Megger Earth Testers in wooden cases had only two posts, one from 1926 has 4 posts opposite of the handle. There is a "Megger pocket book on insulation and continuity testers", dated 1960. The firm Megger Ltd. is now based at: Archcliffe Road, Dover, Kent, CT17 9EN, United Kingdom. |
