Location / Directions |
The Ballarat Tramway Museum is located in the Botanical Gardens, on the western shore of Lake Wendouree. Wendouree Railway Station is an easy walk from the Gardens precinct. On arrival walk back, cross the railway and walk south along Gillies St and through the Gardens to Wendouree Parade or to our Museum / tram depot. The gardens are about a ten minute walk from the station and our depot is about 15 to 20 minutes away through the gardens. We suggest you walk along the Prime Ministers Avenue to the depot, or when trams are operating, catch a tram in Wendouree Parade. |
Description | The Ballarat Tramway Museum is staffed by volunteers who are dedicated to the preservation and operation of part of the former Ballarat street tramways. Trams run along Wendouree Parade through the beautiful and historic Botanical Gardens. Nearby Lake Wendouree is visible for most of the journey of fifteen to twenty minutes. A new display hall was opened in April 2022 where a representative selection of the Museum’s trams can be viewed including horse drawn Tram No 1 from 1887. Guided tours are available. There are many artefacts on display. A range of souvenirs is available for sale. All trams commence their 3.2km return trip from the Museum. |
