Alexander Graham Bell National Historic Site is located on Chebucto Street (Route 205), in a residential area on the east edge of the Village of Baddeck, a community of 1,000 people which is the municipal and service centre of Victoria Country, Nova Scotia. From Port Hawkesbury, Nova Scotia: Drive east on the TransCanada Highway (Highway 105) for about one hour. Take Exit 9 at Baddeck. It's two kilometres (1.25 miles) to the site. From Sydney, Nova Scotia: Drive west on Highway 125 to the TransCanada Highway (Highway 105) and continue driving for about one hour. Take Exit 9 at Baddeck. It's two kilometres (1.25 miles) to the site. |

Special events such as Harvest Home complement the program of activities offered on this site, which is situated on 10 hectares of land overlooking Baddeck Bay on the Bras d'Or Lakes.Kites of the WorldJust over a century ago, Alexander Graham Bell and his wife Mabel were accompanied by their friends Casey and Kathleen Baldwin on a twelve-month trip around the world. Departing from Canada on May 10, 1910, this voyage took them to destinations including Hawaii, Fiji, Australia, China, India, Japan and Europe, culminating in their return to Washington, D.C. on May 8, 1911.Alexander Graham Bell National Historic Site is proud to present a new exhibit, Kites of the World, featuring kites illustrating several of the popular styles which Dr. Bell might have encountered on his journey across the globe. From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia: The museum features artifacts donated in 1955 from the Bell family's personal museum, located in the Kite House at Beinn Bhreagh. The museum also features memorabilia associated with Bell's experiments, including the tetrahedral shelter, the original HD-4 hull, a hydrofoil towing target, plus the contents of Bell's library. The museum also features displays relating to Bell's work with the deaf and how it led to the invention of the telephone. In addition to its displays, the museum features an observation deck on the roof of the building which offers a view of Bell's Beinn Bhreagh estate and the Bras d'Or Lakes. |
