Die romanische Oberburg dient als Museum und kann besichtigt werden.
Das Burgmuseum informiert über die historische Entwicklung der Grafschaft Hartenstein sowie die Geschichte der Burgen Stein und Hartenstein. Außerdem wird über die Jagd- und Forstwirtschaft berichtet und eine umfangreiche Waffensammlung gezeigt.
