Krippen liegt als einziger Ortsteil Bad Schandaus am linken Elbufer. Krippen war Wirkungsbereich von Friedrich Gottlob Keller (1816–1895), dem Erfinder des Holzschliffs zur Papierherstellung, dem hier ein Museum gewidmet ist.

Etwas westlich des Orts liegt der Haltepunkt Krippen an der Bahnstrecke Děčín–Dresden-Neustadt. Die Station Krippen wird alle 60 min je Richtung von der S-Bahn Dresden angefahren (Linie S1 Meißen-Triebischtal–Schöna) und alle 2 Stunden vom Elbe-Labe-Sprinter (Rumburk–Bad Schandau–Děčín hl.n.) angesteuert.

Keller was a german inventor. The use of wood to make pulp for paper began with the development of mechanical pulping by F. G. Keller.
