El primer Puente Transbordador fue construido cerca de Bilbao en España y todavía se utiliza hoy en día. Todo el mundo menos de veinte puentes transbordadores fueron construidos, de los cuales 6 se encuentran actualmente en operación.

El Puente de Vizcaya, es un puente transbordador que une las localidades de Portugalete y Las Arenas, en la provincia de Vizcaya de España, cruzando la desembocadura del río Nervión.
