Description

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia:
Buckinghamshire Railway Centre is a railway museum operated by the Quainton Railway Society Ltd.  The site is divided into two halves which are joined by two foot-bridges. Each side has a demonstration line with various workshop buildings as well as museum buildings.

With an extensively redeveloped site on both sides of the working mainline, BRC houses around 170 items of locomotives and rolling stock, in buildings dating from 1874 to the 1960s. The adjacent World War II warehouses of the Ministry of Food Buffer Depot in the former downside yard have been taken over to display many items awaiting restoration, whilst the Society have added a members' reference library.

Buckinghamshire Railway Centre occupies an extensive site in rolling Buckinghamshire countryside. There is so much to see and do! Exhibits range from large express passenger locomotives to the humble shunting engine together with a host of smaller items recreating the golden age of steam. Check our events programme to see what is happening on the day of your planned visit – steam trains operate on certain days and others are devoted to various special events.

The locomotives in use in 2017 are expected, subject to availability, to include:

  • Metropolitan Railway No. 1 0-4-4T of 1898
  • Peckett 0-4-0 ST 2087 Gibraltar of 1948
  • Andrew Barclay 699 Swanscombe  0-4-0 ST of 1891
  • Bagnall   0-4-0 ST 2469 of 1932
  • Hunslet Austerity 0-6-0ST 3890 No.66 of 1964 – The last steam loco built for UK use.
  • GWR Pannier 0-6-0 9466 of 1952

Expected to return to steam in 2017

  • Sentinel 0-4-0 T 9366 of 1945
  • Hudswell Clarke 0-4-0ST 1742 Millom of 1946
