Die Insel Man ist eine der Britischen Inseln und liegt in der Irischen See zwischen Schottland (29 km entfernt), England (48 km), Nordirland (52 km), Wales (71 km) und der Republik Irland (85 km). Douglas Railway Station is the main terminus of the Isle of Man Railway. The station is located on the southern side of the island's capital, Douglas, and is at the far landward end of the North quay close to the old town and finance centre. It has car parking available for railway patrons on the site of the former goods yard and departure platforms and is served by nearby bus services from many locations on the island. |
| Description | From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia: The Isle of Man Railway (IMR) (Manx: Raad Yiarn Vannin) is a narrow gauge steam-operated railway connecting Douglas with Castletown and Port Erin. The line is 3 ft (914 mm) narrow gauge and 15.3 miles (24.6 km) long. It is the remainder of what was a much larger network (over 46 miles (74 km)) that also served the western town of Peel, the northern town of Ramsey and the small mining village of Foxdale. Now in government ownership, it uses original rolling stock and locomotives and there are few concessions to modernity. |
