Description

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia:
The Royal Air Force Air Defence Radar Museum is a museum on the site of the former Royal Air Force radar and control base RAF Neatishead in Norfolk, England.

The museum's exhibitions cover the history of air defence in the UK, and in particular the development of radar from the 1930s until the end of the Cold War. The museum includes a complete Cold War-era Operations Room from which the air defence of Britain was conducted for several decades, as well as many examples of original radar and communications equipment, and an exhibit of a Royal Observer Corps Nuclear Reporting Post. There is also a gallery devoted to the history of the nearby RAF Coltishall.

Museum's website:
On the Guided Tour, you can experience three themed presentations that will demonstrate the operational use and development of radar as a vital tool in the aerial defence of our shores since 1940 including the Battle of Britain, the Night Blitz and the Cold War.

WHAT TO SEE AND DO

There is lots to see and do at the Air Defence Radar Museum! Just look at the Museum plan!

Radar is just the technology - the important thing is about how all our lives have been affected by Radar - you even use a part of a Radar in your Kitchen at home!! We have 18 rooms to look round, including those listed here.

We also have several real Radars in the Grounds and, of course, looking across the RAF Station which is still operational, you can see a Cold War icon, the Type 84 Radar scanner which once detected and tracked Soviet warplanes as they probed British airspace.

In addition we have many facilities such as Crumbs! Cafe, an outside picnic area and even a dog-parking service to look after our four-legged visitors.

Radiomuseum.org presents here one of the many museum pages. We try to bring data for your direct information about all that is relevant. In the list (link above right) you find the complete listing of museums related to "Radio & Co." we have information of. Please help us to be complete and up to date by using the contact form above.
