The Maritime Museum of La Spezia is located in a building next to the main entrance of the historic naval dockyards and exposes her precious relics sites in large spaces on two floors and an interior garden with a total area of over 3000 square meters.

The collection

A room dedicated to the evolution naval houses valuable collection of scale models of marine vessels of the Italian states that recall the days of sailing, as well as models of almost all major Italian units launched between 1860 and 1910 in the Arsenal of La Spezia , and those of Italian warships of World War II. Among the relics older, must be included a collection of figureheads vessels belonging to the fifteenth, sixteenth, seventeenth century. Among these it is worth mentioning the mysterious carving female, called Atalanta, which is believed to be captivated by his charm disturbing those who look too long.

The hall of assault craft collects extensive documentation. The earliest finds dating back to the War of '15-'18, are the remains of Grillo (model Mas 15) and a prototype of the bomb with which Rossetti and Paolucci sank in the port of Pula the Austrian battleship Viribus Unitis on 1 November 1918. There is also the prototype of the self-propelled torpedo of Toschi and Tesei (better known as pork), as well as small boats, other means of assault, witnessing activity, born in La Spezia, the "Group media assault" during the Second World War.

The room on underwater weapons following the evolution of the torpedo, from prototype used by the Navy in 1875 for the various types used in the First and Second World War. The evolution of underwater mines is testified by the presence of originals used during the world wars.

The room devoted to antique arms, finally, is home to, among others, two mortars Moorish sixteenth century, a cannon turkish 1521, two small bombs in 1784, a Gatling gun barrels to 10 early in the century, originally used by Boxer. There also are two cases of small arms used in the Italo-Turkish War and the First World War

Of particular interest, then, is the photographic documentation about the early experiments of Guglielmo Marconi with mobile receiving stations at the end of the nineteenth century.

In the garden of the Naval Museum there is a bronze monument of Costanzo Ciano, by the sculptor Francesco Messina.
