Tuesday to Sunday, from 10 am to 5 pm. Closed: 1 January, 27 April, 3 October and 25 December. Dinsdag t/m zondag, van 10.00 tot 17.00 uur.
Gesloten: 1 januari, 27 april, 3 oktober en 25 december. Vanaf de voorjaarsvakantie 2018 zijn we ook open op maandagen in schoolvakanties, van 10.00 tot 17.00 uur. Op andere maandagen zijn we alleen open voor (school)groepen die vooraf hebben gereserveerd. |

By train From station Leiden Central it is a 10-minute walk to the museum. Leave the station at the “centrum”-side. Walk straight on to the Beestenmarkt. Turn left. Walk along the water (Oude Singel), just after you passed Museum De Lakenhal you cross the water. Follow the street (Lange Lijsbethsteeg). At the end you follow the curve to the left, continue following this street. On your left you will find Museum Boerhaave. By bus The following buses stop near the museum: Several busses; stop Breestraat (5-minute walk) Bus 15, 56; stop Lange Gracht/ Korte Mare (7-minute walk) By bicycle Bicycles can be stalled in front of the museum. By car Since the museum is located in the centre of Leiden it is hard to find a place to park near the museum. We advise you to park at car park “Haagweg”, from here free shuttle busses will bring you to the museum. |
| Description | From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia: The museum is located in a building that was originally a convent in central Leiden. It includes a reconstructed traditional anatomical theatre. It also has many galleries that include the apparatus with which Heike Kamerlingh Onnes first liquefied helium (in Leiden), the electromagnet equipment used by Wander Johannes de Haas (a Leiden physicist) for his low-temperature research, and an example of the Leiden jar, among many other objects in the extensive collection. The museum is named after Herman Boerhaave, a Dutch physician and botanist who was famous in Europe for his teaching at Leiden and lived to a great age, receiving brilliant students from all over Europe, including Peter the Great, Voltaire and Linnaeus. Collection The Boerhaave Museum is running a project[8] to document approx. 3000 objects in its collection online, with pictures and descriptions for every single object. In April 2010 the site featured over 1750 objects, ordered by room and showcase. This overview is in large part based on the museum's online documentation. The museum has 25 rooms, which are by and large organised chronologically, thematical subgroupings per room.

Wikipedia: Het museum is genoemd naar Herman Boerhaave (1668-1738), een Nederlandse arts, anatoom, botanicus, scheikundige en onderzoeker. Het museum bevat een collectie historische wetenschappelijke instrumenten uit alle takken van wetenschap, maar hoofdzakelijk uit de geneeskunde, natuurkunde, en astronomie. Oorspronkelijk was het museum ondergebracht in het Boerhaavegebouw bij het toenmalige academisch ziekenhuis (nu in gebruik bij het Museum Volkenkunde). Om het Museum Boerhaave beter te kunnen huisvesten is het huidige complex (het voormalige Sint Caeciliaklooster) aangekocht door de Rijksgebouwendienst en in de jaren tachtig van de 20e eeuw gerestaureerd en uitgebreid. In het museum is een reconstructie van het Leids Anatomisch Theater (1610) op ware grootte te zien. De reconstructie is van rond 1990, de skeletten zijn recent. Een interessant onderdeel van de collectie en een goed voorbeeld van vernieuwend denken in de 17e eeuw zijn de chirurgische instrumenten van Cornelis Solingen. In het Museum Boerhaave in Leiden bevinden zich 72 door Louis Auzoux vervaardigde modellen van het menselijk lichaam.
