Hallstahammar is a locality and the seat of Hallstahammar Municipality in Västmanland County, Sweden.

The Trångfors area is a historic industrial area outside Hallstahammar in Hallstahammar municipality. Through the area, Kolbäcksån and Strömsholm's canal go, which enabled hammers, smiths and hydropower plants to be established here.

Trångfors power station is located about 300 meters south of the smithy, on the eastern side of the Kolbäcksån.

Trångforsområdet är ett historiskt industriområde utanför Hallstahammar i Hallstahammars kommun. Genom trakten går Kolbäcksån och Strömsholms kanal som möjliggjorde att hammare, smedjor och vattenkraftverk kunde etableras här.

Trångfors kraftsation ligger cirka 300 meter söder om smedjan , på östra sidan om Kolbäcksån.

The power station

The plant was built to transfer electric power to Asea and the Nordic Metallaktiebolaget in Västerås. The station was constructed in 1898-99 by the engineering firm Qvist & Gjers in Arboga and Asea supplied the six generators for three-phase alternating current. One of these generators received a Grand Prix award at the World Exhibition in Paris in 1900.

The power plant has six recumbent water turbines with an output of 400 hp each.

Turbines and generators were in operation around the clock and without major renovations until 1990. A new underground facility, Hallstahammar Power Station, was inaugurated, replacing Trångfors, Bruksfallet, Bultfallet and Norrkvarn, all built during the years 1898-1923.

The original equipment in Trångfors is preserved and the facility now serves as a museum.

Anläggningen byggdes för att överföra elkraft till Asea och Nordiska Metallaktiebolaget i Västerås. Stationen konstruerades 1898-99 av ingenjörsfirman Qvist & Gjers i Arboga och Asea levererade de sex generatorerna för trefas växelström. En av dessa generatorer erhöll en Grand Prix-utnämning vid världsutställningen i Paris år 1900.

Kraftverket har sex liggande vattenturbiner med en effekt på 400 hk vardera.
