Repairs at Buick Gallery moving classic vehicle display to Flint-area mall

FLINT, MI -- Building repairs at the Buick Automotive Gallery will shift dozens of classic vehicles from the Flint destination into a Burton shopping center for safe keeping.

The gallery at 303 Walnut Street is set to close after Sunday, Feb. 25 as work takes place on the building, with the vehicles housed there moving to Courtland Center Mall, 4190 E. Court St.

Cathy Gentry, director of business operations for Buick Gallery, Sloan Museum, and Longway Planetarium, said work set to take place includes roof and wall repairs while the process to move the vehicles won't be rapid.

It will take some time to move the vehicles, Gentry said, which include everything from carriages to a 1949 Buick Roadmaster Riviera and 1926 Chevrolet Superior K, due to the amount of personnel needed and tricky weather conditions.

Vehicles from Sloan Museum's collection of over 120 vehicles, including cars, carriages, trucks, motorcycles, and others -- all with ties to Flint's automotive history.

Those vehicles moved to Courtland Center from the gallery will be stored in the former Steve and Barry's site, Gentry said. It's unknown at this time how long they will remain at the temporary or how long the repair work may take.

The Perry Archives situated in the same building as the Buick Gallery will remain open during the construction period and available by appointment by calling 810-237-3440 or emailing Collections@SloanLongway.org.
