Jackson, officially the City of Jackson, is the capital city and largest urban center of the U.S. state of Mississippi.

Amtrak, the national passenger rail system, provides service to Jackson. The Amtrak station is located at 300 West Capitol Street. The southbound City of New Orleans provides service from Jackson to New Orleans and some points between; it leaves at 11:20 a.m. and arrives in New Orleans about 3:30 p.m. The northbound City of New Orleans provides service from Jackson to Memphis, Carbondale, Champaign-Urbana, Chicago, and some points between.

Description

The Fire Museum provides an entertaining and educational showcase of the history of fire fighting through exhibitions of artifacts while providing knowledge, skills, and education necessary to prevent the loss of life and/or property to the ravages of fire.

Exhibits
The City of Jackson Fire Museum consists of artifacts including:

    Records
    An 1870 parade uniform
    Communication equipment
    Pictures
    Helmets
    Fire apparatus (such as a 1904 horse-drawn steamer)
    A 1917 chain-driven American LaFrance
    A 1936 Seagrave
    And more

These exhibits give Fire Museum visitors the history of the Jackson Fire Department from the early 1800s to the actual equipment used in fighting fires today. This complex has educational displays and materials which provide valuable information for the public in how to prevent fires and protect their lives and property from fire loss or damage.
