  • The Crosley 136-1 "Secretary" is an AC operated 10 tube BC and SW band receiver.  Has 2 speakers with two stage IF amplifier, active AVC circuit and push pull audio output stage. Has 5 different frequency bands.

Band Frequency Ranges are as follows:
    Band 1 (BC Band).......550 - 1500 kHz
    Band 2 .....................1500 - 3500 kHz
    Band 3 .....................3500 - 6500kHz
    Band 4 .....................6500 - 12000kHz
    Band 5 .....................12000 - 20000kHz

Conflicts in documentation:  There are some conflicts in the existing Crosley documentation for this model.  The Crosley service manual and Crosley Service Bulletin list the IF as 456kHz, while Riders list the IF as 181.5kHz.  The Crosley News Brochure lists the first detector tube as a 57, while all other documentation list the first detector tube as type 58.

From the 1932-33 Crosley News Brochure:  This chest model short wave and broadcast band receiver has a front panel of stump walnut veneer.  The beautifully molded edge top is of walnut veneer-hand rubbed.  Two distinctively designed speaker grilles are located at either end.  Molded knobs at the four corners raise the cabinet from the surface on which it rests.

In many cases Crosley used the chassis number as the model number, and added a model name to some models to help distinguish versions that used common chassis. Here are the models that used the 136-1 chassis versions:

    Model Model Type Chassis Speakers
    136-1  "Governor" Console 136-1 Qty(2)
    136-1  "Secretary" Table Top 136-1 Qty(2)
