EZ1 with copper cathode. Better thermal conductivity and lower heat radiation was expected by the use of copper cathodes. However, copper evaporates strongly at the usual cathode operating temperatures of 800 ° C and deposits on the insulators and the inner surface of the bulb, which can clearly be seen in the greenish discolour, so tubes with copper cathode disappeared very quickly from the market.
