AN/APN-1 is an operating in the UHF-band airborne Frequency-Modulated Continuous-Wave (FMCW-radar) radar altimeter designed for installation in aircraft to provide direct indication of altitude above terrain during flight.
The two dipole antennas were attached to the wings. 120 measurement cycles per second were performed, comparing the transmission frequency directly interspersed in the receiving antenna with the frequency of the signal reflected on the ground
