Description

According to Tyne on page 318, extensive experimental work was done at GE during 1924 and 1925 and in July 1926 samples were submitted to RCA, which assigned the type UX222 in November 1926. Production was started at Nela Park and the UX222 was announced by RCA in October 1927. The thoriated filament takes 0.132 ampere at 3.3 volts. The maximum recommended anode voltage is 135 volts and with +45 volts on the screen grid and -1.5 volts on the inner grid it is resulting 1.5 milliampere anode curent. Amplification factor is then 300 and the mutual conductance 350 micromhos.

Only the UY227 from Westinghouse was some months earlier as first screen grid tube for (battery) radios in the USA. The first AC screen grid tube, the UY224, followed in 1929. Those three types were getting rid of neutralization to be necessary.
