Descrizione This is a Round soft tube, developed by Captain H J Round for the Marconi Wireless Telegraph Company from 1913. Initially intended for radio use, they were first used in quantity for telephone repeater service where the higher gain of the soft tube over the vacuum tubes was beneficial. However, their unreliability required regular maintenance to maintain the optimum gas pressure; this was achieved by warming the asbestos included inside the short glass tube at the top of the bulb.
For radio use during the WWII period they proved valuable as a sensitive detector, having gains equal to three vacuum tubes - but only when new or correctly adjusted!

The 2V-P1f is an unusual example in that it appears to be a transitional model by having the connections on the side of the envelope through which the connections to the grid and anode normally passed. This tube has all four connections brought to the base. (Further information from collector)
The dating is uncertain, but would lie between 1915 and 1918.
