Description

this "soft" tube was designed by Captain Henry J Round for the Marconi Wireless Telegraph Company. Intended for military use, they were first utilised as telephone repeater tubes, having a high gain. They were unrelible as  the gas pressure was known to fail. This problem was overcome by warming the asbestos in the tube at the top of the bulb.

They were used in the British Military during World War One as somewhat sensative detectors, when properly adjusted
