Variants

Die ersten Versionen der 5Z4 erschienen in einer perforierten Metallhülle ("Birdcage = Vogelkäfig").
Die RCA- Version enthielt zwei bleistiftförmige Elektrodensysteme, deren äußere Umhüllung sowohl die Anodenzylinder selbst wie auch das Gehäuse des Systems darstellten.
Andere Hersteller, z. B. Raytheon, bauten eine normalem Glasröhre mit zylindrischem Kolben in diese Birdcage-Metallhülle.
Diese Glasröhre ist praktisch baugleich mit der moderneren Version der russischen 5z4s, weshalb man mit einer solchen eine Birdcage- 5Z4 rekonstruieren kann, wie hier geschehen. [JR]
The Arcturus "Coronet" metal/glass type 5Z4 tube is unusual in that it employed a glass disc instead of the conventional "pinch" for introducing the lead-in wires into the glass bulb. The disc has the wires in a circular formation. (70 Years of Radiotubes and V. Pages 99 & 100)
