Description

One of the more powerful S-band packaged magnetron, designed for early warning radar sets. Intended to operate with oil-immersed heater/cathode terminals for insulation and with forced-fluid cooling.

  • 2750 to 2860 MHz
  • 71 kV at 130 A typical input pulses
  • 4.8 MW peak output pulses, 2 µs at 0.00072 duty
  • 85 A heater pre-heating current for 3 minutes, must be reduced to 82 A in operation.

2805MHz fixed frequency high-power magnetron. 76KV, 135A, 5MW out pulses. Integral magnet, waveguide output, water cooling.
GE, Raytheon and Italian Selenia Eltel, formerly ELSI, known sources.

A very interesting 1959 film showing the replacement of this magnetron aboard of an US EC-121 Warning Star can be seen at the link below

It also helps to fully understand the huge mass of this magnetron which has to be handled by two young people.
