Description

The 6700 is the first beam switching tube made in series. It is a high speed, nixie-compatible alternative to the Dekatron (of Sylvania, e.g. 6910), called Trochotron. The counting speed is 2 MHz. Magnetic beam switching tubes are exotic hard vacuum decimal counting devices used in high speed applications through the 1950's and 1960's.

The 6700 magnetic beam switching tube, and the associated Nixie tube HB-106 too, were introduced in 1955 by Haydu Brothers, at the date subsidiary of Burroughs. The design of the beam switching counter was anyway carried out under the direction of Sam Kuchinsky, who had devised the three electrode counting structure at the Burroughs Research Center in Pauli, PA

6700 is the EIA/RMA registration in favour of Haydu Brothers for MO-10 or H-B100 internal references.
Operating principle of trochotron.
