Description |
The first Acorn-tube, followed by the pentode 954 in 1935 and the variable-mu pentode 956 in 1936. See also the British "Acorn-valves" with 4-V-heaters and the Tosiba UN955. The tube was originally branded RCA-deForest
Designed to operate as amplifier or oscillator up to 600 MHz, thanks to the small dimensions of electrodes and the low inductance of its connections.

A nice instruction how to build a midget broadcast set with the 955 acorn tube was issued in the book "Radio For The Millions" (prepared in 1945 by Popular Science Monthly staff, but first published in "Popular Scienece Monthly" November 1938).
