Descripción Designer was Dr H. P. Donle, then (1919) chief engineer at Connecticut Telephone and Electric Company, Meriden Connecticut. In 1925 left Connecticut Telephone and Electric Company to establish his own company, the Donle Bristol Corporation of Meriden, Connecticut, where later sodion types were developed and manufactured. See Tyne, beginning page 336. This tube, the type-A Donle is a later version of the type A and is fitted with a Shaw Insulator Company "standard" Navy style UV base. In developing this tube, Donle experimented with various metals as a successful anode. He eventually settled on a thin silver tube which was placed over the inner glass tube. This tube also contained the filament and spiral grid. The tube widens out to about 30 mm diameter, where it sits in the UV base and it is assumed that the wide spacing of this tube is to avoid overheating of the narrower upper part of the tube. There is no outer bulb on this tube so the vacuum would have to be maintained without the vent hole as in the smaller based type A tube and C tube.
